Baidu Great Wall builds L4 parking

Publish Date: 2021.06.29

Following the Weimar W6 equipped with Baidu's AVP self-parking product and mass-produced and launched it, Baidu has taken another step forward and launched in-depth cooperation with Great Wall Motors on AVP products. After in-depth communication in the early stage and more than a year of development, the two parties are expected to achieve mass production of AVP products in the second half of the year.

The first smart car that Baidu and Great Wall Motors will cooperate with will be the WEY Mocha. The new car equipped with AVP function is initially expected to be on the market in the second half of the year.

AVP is a commercial product independently developed by Baidu Apollo that can realize autonomous driving under limited conditions. At present, the product has reached a mass production cooperation with domestic OEM OEMs, and is gradually operating in diversified scenarios such as private parking lots, transportation hubs, and commercial parking lots.

Based on Baidu's unique car-cloud-map-field overall solution and the advantages of high-precision maps, AVP can reach the L4 level of unmanned parking with a lower-cost sensor (visual + ultrasonic) solution, and it can also help The rapid mass production of OEM car companies has greatly shortened the research and development cycle. Through the current Apollo's existing landing cooperative trial operation, we found that AVP can not only be applied to most of the standard commercial parking spaces on the market, but also be quite useful in the future expansion of more complex parking environments and related scenarios (automatic charging, shared travel, etc.) potential.

It is reported that the AVP product of this cooperation is based on Baidu's Apollo software algorithm, with a functional safety level of ASIL-B, and can realize L4 level unmanned autonomous parking within the visual range. On vehicles equipped with AVP technology, vehicle owners can easily implement operations such as remote calling and autonomous parking through mobile terminal devices such as mobile phones. At the same time, it has also demonstrated a good level of safety in avoiding obstacles and dealing with complex traffic conditions.

Baidu Apollo and Great Wall Motors have always maintained a close cooperative relationship. As early as 2016, Great Wall Motors and Baidu have already cooperated in the field of high-precision map positioning technology. Based on the highways surrounding Baoding City, where the Great Wall Motors headquarters are located, they jointly developed high-precision map positioning technology and formed technical results. In July 2017, Great Wall became the first strategic partner of Baidu's Apollo platform. In April 2018, Great Wall Motors and Baidu signed a memorandum of strategic cooperation, announcing that the two parties will carry out strategic cooperation in the four areas of intelligent vehicle connectivity, autonomous driving, shared travel, and big data. At present, the second-generation Haval H6, H4Pro and many other mass-produced models are equipped with Baidu's intelligent vehicle networking products.

Baidu Apollo and Great Wall are the earliest companies in China to carry out autonomous driving research, and they are both in the leading position in the automotive and technology industries. The cooperation between the two parties on AVP products is just the beginning. With the deepening of the cooperation, the AVP function will be further upgraded in OTA in the future.

Baidu and Great Wall both stated that in the future, they will continue to work together to "make great strides" to create a model "soft and hard CP" in the field of autonomous driving, further promote the development of the industry, and promote the commercialization of autonomous driving products.
