    A few days ago, the BMW Group announced that it would upgrade the BMW 7.0 operating system to the latest version through OTA for more than 750,000 BMW cars worldwide, including more than 200,000 BMW cars in the Chinese market.

    The BMW remote software upgrade only takes 20 minutes. Users will receive a push in the BMW App in the car or on their smartphones, and they can download the software directly to the car and install it for free. The upgrade involves modules such as digital services, driver assistance, electrical, chassis, and power systems. The OTA upgrade makes the BMW Group the first European car manufacturer to carry out a large-scale vehicle upgrade.

    After the upgrade, the new iDrive 7.0 system adds Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife smart screen projection functions, which can be projected on the head-up display and dashboard.

    At the same time, the intelligent personal assistant function adopts a newly designed UI vision and adds new functions, such as opening the corresponding car windows according to instructions; controlling the air conditioner by area and wind direction; turning on the defrosting and defogging function; driving mode adjustment; restaurant reservations and other functions. 

    BMW has also launched on-board short videos in the car. The video content includes hot news, finance, technology, automobiles, sports, education, entertainment, etc. The on-board short video function can be activated through voice, iDrive knob and touch screen. However, for safety reasons, when the vehicle speed exceeds 5 km/h, the video content will no longer be visible. 

    BMW has also further optimized the remote control function, and improved the reliability of the vehicle's remote whistle, remote positioning and other functions by improving the software settings of the communication module.

    The opening method of the tailgate has also been optimized and upgraded. The sensor located under the vehicle can recognize the action of extending the foot forward in the middle area of the rear of the vehicle, so that the user can open or close the tailgate of the vehicle without contact, and can independently set the functions of tailgate opening and tailgate closing, so that they can be customized The needs of custom function settings.

    Today, automotive remote OTA is no longer a "patent" for new cars. In the traditional car camp, SAIC GM is also carrying out remote OTA upgrades like BMW. From December this year to February 2021, SAIC-GM will upgrade the in-vehicle interconnection systems of Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac's 17 car series via OTA. At the same time, SAIC-GM also announced that in the future, the OTA of the in-vehicle interconnection system will be updated more than once a year, covering more than 80% of its models.
