On September 8, the Federation released a ranking of the top 10 car companies in August, with FAW-Volkswagen still at the top, with the combined sales volume of 194,000 cars in August, up 16.9% year on year. Retail sales of passenger vehicles reached 1.703 million units in August, up 8.9 per cent from August last year, marking the strongest positive growth since May 2018.

        Retail sales of luxury cars rose 32 percent in August from a year earlier, up 3 percent from July, and their market share hit an all-time high of 15 percent, the data showed. Retail sales of mainstream joint venture brands increased by 6% year-on-year in August and by 6% month-on-month in July. Retail sales of self-owned brands increased by 4% year on year in August and 7% month on month in July. The market share was 33%, up 2% from July. Its retail share was 24.5% on August, compared with 27% for German brands. The share of American brands rose to 10.2 percent, 1.6 percentage points higher than that of the previous year.
