Sylphy continues to perform strongly

    On September 3, Nissan Motor China announced its August sales results. Dongfeng Nissan’s August terminal sales were 100,287 vehicles, setting the best sales record since August 2003. In August, it increased slightly by 0.3% year-on-year. Dongfeng Nissan has maintained positive growth for six consecutive months. Cumulative sales from January to August reached 646,000, a year-on-year decrease of 9.7%, and the rate of decline continued to narrow.

    The seventh-generation Teana ALTIMA and Sylphy series continued to set the best sales record in August. Teana sold 11,693 vehicles in August, a year-on-year increase of 11.8%; Sylphy sold 46,688 vehicles in August, a year-on-year increase of 43%. It is reported that Teana has set the best sales record for 4 consecutive months, and Sylphy has set the best sales record for 5 consecutive months.

    In the traditional off-season, Sylphy saw a slight decline from the previous month, but it saw a year-on-year increase of 43%. After checking the official website, the 14th-generation Sylphy was officially launched in mid-July 2019. In August last year, it sold 11467 units in its first month of launch.

    Based on the sales volume in the first 7 months of this year, Sylphy's sales achieved 30,000 units higher than the second place, and won the top position in the car market and even the passenger car market. Since Dongfeng fully resumed work and production at the end of March, Sylphy began to regain the sales crown from Lavida. As SAIC Volkswagen has not announced its August sales, as of July 31, Sylphy's sales have been crushing LaVida for four consecutive months.

    Teana has been tepid since its listing. Although its sales in August increased by 11.8% compared to the same period in 2019, there is still a big gap in sales compared with the Accord and Camry in the same level.

SUV continues to decline year-on-year

    In terms of SUV products, Dongfeng Nissan’s cumulative sales from January to August were 222,900. Specific to the main models, Qijun sold 15,304 in August, down 20.7% year-on-year; Qashqai sold 14,061 in August, down 25.5% year-on-year.

    Qijun has been doing mediocre performance this year. The cumulative sales volume from January to August was 99,000, which exceeded the 140,000 mark in the same period last year, a cumulative decline of 29.8%. Among the top 15 SUVs, its decline was second only to Tiguan. X-Trail has achieved good results in the sales of joint venture SUVs in Asia and Japan in 2019, but it is difficult to make a breakthrough this year. In the field of Japanese SUVs this year, Honda's CR-V and Toyota's RAV4 are the most prominent in sales.

    In mid-August, 2021 Qijun will be launched. This time, Nissan did not introduce the fourth-generation X-Trail, which was already on the market overseas, into the country, but only carried out a small annual change. Qijun's 2021 facelift model changes are mainly in assisted driving and intelligent network connection, which caters to the current consumer demand for intelligent big data. Whether the 2021 X-Trail can gain an advantage in the competition with CR-V and RAV-4 is still a big question mark.

    Dongfeng Nissan's SUV model is not only Qijun, but one of its main models, Qashqai, also experienced a serious decline this year. Qashqai’s cumulative sales of 87,000 units from January to August were down 21.6% from the 111,000 units in the same period in 2019.

    Since August this year, Dongfeng Nissan has launched a number of SUV models equipped with the new Super Intelligent Link system. The 2021 Qashqai will be launched on August 18. On August 13, 2021 Qijun and 2021 Loulan were launched. On August 2, 2021 Jinke went on sale. With the launch of many new models, it is still unknown whether SUVs equipped with the new Super Smart Link system can catch up in the remaining four months of 2020 and make Dongfeng Nissan's overall SUV sales turn positive year-on-year.
