The four were charged with fraud, false identification and advertising, German prosecutors said in a statement.




     The Munich charges include three former board members and a retired department head, the report said. The charges relate to emissions cheating in a total of 434,420 Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche branded cars sold mainly in the United States and Europe. The four are accused of developing an engine operated by illegal software. The software allows the engine to emit less fuel under conventional test conditions than under normal driving conditions.
