On April 9th, the China Automotive Energy Efficiency Development and Testing Certification Alliance (referred to as the Energy Efficiency Alliance) officially released the first batch of energy efficiency grading evaluation results for pure electric passenger vehicles. This evaluation covers 12 mainstream pure electric vehicle models in the market, and comprehensively evaluates them from four dimensions: driving, air conditioning, driving, and energy replenishment. Among the 12 mainstream pure electric vehicle models in the market that participated in the evaluation, 8 domestic independent brand models and 3 joint venture brand models received a "first level energy efficiency" rating. This achievement marks a crucial step forward for China's new energy vehicle industry in the field of energy conservation and carbon reduction, providing scientific reference for consumers to purchase cars and injecting new momentum into the global automotive industry's green transformation.
Under the guidance of the "dual carbon" goal, the green and efficient development of the automotive industry has become a global consensus. In response to the national energy conservation and carbon reduction policies, the China Automotive Energy Efficiency Development and Testing Certification Alliance has emerged. This alliance is jointly initiated by China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd. and China Quality Certification Center, relying on authoritative technical strength and standardization system, focusing on core directions such as energy efficiency development, carbon assessment management, and evaluation certification, to promote industry technological innovation and high-quality development. The energy efficiency grading system scientifically quantifies the energy consumption level of vehicles, providing consumers with transparent purchasing criteria and promoting car companies to optimize their technological routes.
This evaluation covers 12 mainstream pure electric vehicle models in the domestic and joint venture brand markets. The results show that the energy efficiency of all 8 domestic models has reached the first level energy efficiency standard, especially in terms of driving energy efficiency and supplementary energy efficiency. Liu Anmin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Director, and General Manager of China Automotive Research Institute, pointed out that breaking through the prominent constraints of resources and environment and promoting economic structural transformation and upgrading are inherent requirements for achieving sustainable and high-quality development. The energy efficiency management of new energy vehicles can play a positive role in guiding the green development of the industry.
According to expert calculations, if 60 million first level energy-efficient pure electric vehicles are put into use, they can save 286.65 million megawatt hours of electricity (equivalent to 79.62 million households' annual electricity consumption), reduce coal consumption by 85.995 million tons, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 153.816 million tons in ten years. The ecological benefits are equivalent to the forest carbon sink capacity of 5.7 Changbai Mountains.
The energy efficiency grading system will have a positive impact on the development of the automotive industry. For consumers, Liu Jiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Director, and General Manager of the China Quality Certification Center, stated that energy efficiency labels are like "energy-saving performance reports". The cost per kilometer of a first level energy-efficient vehicle is only 1/10 of that of a gasoline vehicle. When purchasing a car, "identifying the level" can achieve "energy-saving and cost saving". For enterprises, this system promotes technological iteration through quantitative indicators, such as optimizing battery energy conversion efficiency, improving thermal management system performance, etc., helping car companies shift from "parameter competition" to "real energy efficiency competition". At present, the Energy Efficiency Alliance has initiated research on energy efficiency grading for hybrid and commercial vehicles, and will build an evaluation system covering the entire industry chain in the future.
The release of the energy efficiency grading evaluation results is not only a milestone in the high-quality development of China's new energy vehicle industry, but also a new starting point towards becoming a global leader in automotive energy efficiency standards. The Energy Efficiency Alliance stated that the next step will be to accelerate the improvement of grading standards, expand the scope of evaluated vehicle models, actively promote a significant improvement in the energy efficiency level of new energy vehicles in China, and contribute to the "Chinese solution" for global low-carbon transformation.
