Publish Date: 2025.01.13

On January 13th, data from the General Administration of Customs showed that China's automobile (including chassis) exports from January to December were 6.407 million units, a year-on-year increase of 22.8% compared to 5.218 million units last year; The export volume of automobiles in December was 574000 units.

The corresponding export value of Chinese automobiles (including chassis) in 2024 is 834.65 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16.5%. In the field of automotive spare parts, China's export value last year was 664.76 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.8%.

On the same day, the State Council Information Office held a press conference, and Wang Lingjun, Deputy Director General of the General Administration of Customs, responded to the issue of "overcapacity". He said, "Whether from the perspective of comparative advantage or global market demand, there is no such thing as the so-called 'overcapacity in China' problem. This problem is purely a false proposition

Previously, foreign media reported that China's new energy industry is facing the problem of "overcapacity". Regarding this, Guo Kai, Executive Director of the China Institute of Finance's Forty People Research Institute, has calculated that the average depreciation rate for cars in developed countries is 4% -5% (with each car used for 20-25 years). According to statistics, in 2023, China's production and sales of new energy vehicles will reach 9.587 million and 9.495 million respectively, far less than the depreciation and new demand of nearly 40 million vehicles domestically
At this press conference, Wang Lingjun also emphasized that Chinese manufacturing is widely popular in the global market, relying on a complete and continuously iterated industrial system, as well as continuous investment and innovation in research and development. We have ensured the stability of the global supply chain with our own complete manufacturing industry chain, driving technological progress and industrial upgrading worldwide. This is evident to all and cannot be denied by anyone

In 2025, the General Administration of Customs will optimize the reform of customs clearance mode for imported goods, focusing on ensuring the import of energy and mineral products and agricultural and food products, and further facilitating the expansion of exports of automobiles and other products. Let these goods, which account for a higher proportion of China's total foreign trade volume, enter and exit better and faster, transform the saved time and costs into a competitive advantage for import and export enterprises, and stabilize the basic situation of foreign trade
