According to foreign media reports, the Federation of Automotive Workers (UAW) stated that members of the UAW at General Motors Flint assembly plant voted weakly against the proposed contract between the union and the company.
The voting results indicate that this transaction, which will significantly increase general costs, may not necessarily be approved. On November 9th, UAW 598 posted on Facebook that 51.8% of the factory's members voted against accepting the new contract. General Motors stated that it will not comment during the contract approval process.
UAW's vote tracking system shows that approximately 58% of workers in General Motors' factories have voted in favor of the total number of votes cast so far. It is expected that workers from other factories of the company will vote on the agreement in the coming weeks.

Workers at some of General Motors' major factories, including the Arlington assembly plant in Texas and the Fort Wayne truck factory in Indiana, have not yet voted, and these factories are responsible for producing some of the company's most profitable models.
The new agreement reached between UAW and General Motors covers 46000 employees of the company. The agreement includes a 25% increase in basic wages by April 2028, and if cost of living adjustments are included, employee wages will increase by up to 33%, or over $42 per hour. The likelihood of GM increasing its hourly salary by another 15 cents is very low, "said Erik Gordon, a business professor at the University of Michigan
In addition, UAW production workers at the Louisville assembly plant and Kentucky truck factory also voted against the new contract, which lasts for four and a half years, while technical workers voted in favor of passing the new contract.
The UAW 862 union stated that 55% of production workers opposed the approval of the new contract, but 69% of technical employees voted in favor.
The union did not disclose the overall proportion of affirmative votes or the total number of votes cast. Neither the union nor Ford immediately responded to requests for comment from foreign media.
Previously, UAW launched its first simultaneous strike against the Detroit automakers (General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis), and subsequently the union reached a contract agreement with the automakers. Currently, union members from the three automakers are voting on their respective contracts.
