According to reports, General Motors will close its information technology center in Arizona this autumn and lay off over 900 employees.
General Motors spokesperson Kevin Kelly stated on August 23 that the IT Innovation Center in Chandler, which opened in 2014, will close in October of this year. This center is one of four IT innovation centers operated by General Motors across the United States.
Stacy Lynett, Vice President of Information and Digital Technology at General Motors, said, "Today we announced a difficult decision to cease information and digital technology (IDT) operations at the Arizona IT Innovation Center by the end of October. This is a difficult decision, but it will help optimize our innovation center layout, improve efficiency and efficiency, and continue to support the company

The center has approximately 940 employees, most of whom are members of General Motors' IT support team. Kelly told the media that some employees will continue to work in software defined vehicle technology in Arizona. He stated that employees affected by this layoff can apply for other vacant positions within the company before the end of October.
In addition to Arizona, General Motors also has innovation centers in Warren, Michigan, Roswell, California, and Austin, Texas. According to the company, employees at the Arizona IT Innovation Center focus on areas such as network technology, end-user applications, dealer and factory systems, and vehicle technology.
Previously, General Motors announced last week that it plans to lay off about 200 engineering positions to reduce the complexity of automobiles, with many of these engineers expected to be transferred to other positions in the company.
