Ranking and Analysis Report of Domestic Automotive Complaints in May 2023

  According to the statistics of China's leading platform for collecting information on defective automotive products, Car Quality Network, in May 2023, it received a total of 13139 valid complaints from car owners (including 4 complaints against third-party platforms and 3 complaints about rear tires), setting a new record for the highest monthly complaint volume within the year, with a month on month increase of 11.6% and a year-on-year increase of 15.2%. The cumulative number of complaints from January to May this year reached 53540, an increase of 11.4% compared to the same period last year.

  

  Data shows that the valid complaint information received by Car Quality Network this month involves a total of 751 models, including 120 models with complaints reaching two digits or more. In addition, Car Quality Network received a total of 13448 responses from car companies regarding complaints this month (including some responses from previous months' complaints). After removing the information that the complainant voluntarily applied to withdraw the complaint due to the car company's proper resolution, the top 30 car series (models) with the highest number of complaints in May 2023 were ranked as follows:

  In May, some domestic brand models experienced an abnormal increase in short-term complaints, driving the monthly complaint volume to achieve month on month growth for four consecutive months and setting a historical record for the same period. From the perspective of typical complaint issues, in addition to the frequent complaints of "dashboard cracking" and "component aging" in the past six months, "price change" has become a prominent complaint issue this month, with complaints concentrated in some domestic brand new energy vehicles. It is worth noting that "brake failure" was a typical complaint issue this month, which was extremely rare in previous rankings. Complaints came from Dongfeng Nano EX1, and the number of complaints doubled month on month.

  In May, the number and proportion of complaints from domestic brands significantly increased, with a month on month increase of about 27%. The proportion of complaints increased by 7 percentage points, reaching the highest point in nearly a year. The number and proportion of complaints from imported brands also slightly increased in April. In contrast, the number and proportion of complaints from joint venture brands have both declined.

  This month, except for domestic and Korean brands, the number of complaints from other countries has decreased month on month, with French brands experiencing the largest decline, a decrease of 33.8% compared to April. The number of complaints from Korean brands increased by 12.3% month on month, and the proportion remained unchanged.

  From the perspective of vehicle type attributes, the number of complaints from mid size and large to medium-sized vehicles has exploded this month, with a doubling of the month on month growth. Among them, the number of complaints from the latter increased by 1.72 times compared to April, with complaints from some domestic brand new energy vehicles. In contrast, the number of complaints from compact cars and SUVs decreased month on month, with SUV complaints decreasing by 18.2% compared to April.

  In May, the number of complaints for the 2022 model broke through 5000 for the first time, an increase of 59.1% month on month, significantly widening the gap with other models. Last month, the number of complaints for the 2023 model exceeded a thousand for the first time, and this month, the number of complaints has dropped to below a thousand.

  This month, the number of complaints about pure electric vehicles reached a new level, breaking through 3000 for the first time, an increase of 1.2 percentage points compared to April. It is worth noting that in May, the number of complaints about plug-in hybrid models erupted, with a month on month increase of more than three times, and the proportion of complaints also rose to double digits. The increase in complaints came from two independent brand new energy models.
