Driver research: Car parking information is one of the most valuable connected vehicle services

  On May 5, 2023, according to a recent survey report by TechInsights on the interest in connected vehicle functionality, determining whether there is a parking space near the destination has become the most needed connected vehicle service for drivers worldwide. This report evaluated 28 connected vehicle services and invited a total of 4990 drivers worldwide, including 1723 Chinese drivers, to rank their interest in each service.

  

  The survey results show that the most popular in car features among Chinese drivers include evaluating whether there are parking spaces near the destination, optimizing routes, and providing traffic and weather information that may affect the route. Among them, 66% of Chinese drivers surveyed believe that in car parking information is the most valuable connected vehicle service. In the survey of car owners of various brands, it was also found that owners of mid to high priced vehicles require parking information more than those of low priced vehicles. In China, drivers who own large vehicles (large passenger cars and SUVs) will reserve parking spaces before reaching their destination as the fifth most important function, while drivers of small vehicles consider this priority to be lower. However, drivers of all vehicle models are increasingly hoping that the availability of parking spaces can be seamlessly integrated into the in-car navigation process.

  Unlike the surveyed drivers from the United States and Western European countries, Chinese car owners have a consistent demand for the most important Internet of Vehicles services across different age groups. The first two functions selected by Chinese drivers of all surveyed age groups are: finding available parking spaces near their destination, and automatically predicting and navigating frequently traveled routes. In addition, for many young Chinese drivers, the in car payment function has shifted from an optional option to a strong demand. It is expected that the in car payment market in China will experience a compound annual growth rate of 14.5% from 2022 to 2030- indicating an increase in the trust of Chinese drivers in payment through vehicles and their desire for maximum convenience and seamless user experience. Overall, the interest in in in car payments is increasing year by year among surveyed drivers of all age groups.

  

  The report also highlights the current popularity of new car features, such as car gaming, email editing and sending, social media integration, and itinerary management, which generally have lower priority in China and other countries, although more and more connected vehicles are currently equipped with these features.

  

  For this latest research report, Mr. Wu Chengnan, Business Development Manager of Bozhi Port in China, stated: There is a gap of approximately 80 million parking spaces in China, which makes it very difficult to find a parking space in major cities across the country. Therefore, it is not surprising that Chinese drivers prioritize parking information as their top priority for connected car services in the survey. Nevertheless, Chinese automakers have still failed to meet their needs through their connected car products.

  

  According to the latest report on parking behavior of Chinese drivers in Port of Putonghua, the majority of drivers with car networking services have a positive attitude towards car networking services. However, one out of every seven Chinese drivers does not know whether their car includes parking information services. Therefore, car manufacturers need to ensure that they provide the correct range of connected car services to meet the needs of drivers and better communicate their vehicles' equipped parking information services The function of ensuring that drivers maximize the use of unique technologies and services to enhance journey and brand loyalty.
