BMW ix5 hydrogen fuel cell vehicle integrates hydrogen fuel cell technology and the fifth generation BMW Edrive electric drive technology. 2. BMW hydrogen fuel cell system starts production in Munich
BMW Group continues to actively promote hydrogen powered green and sustainable travel in the future. Since 2013, BMW Group and Toyota Motor Company have continuously deepened cooperation. According to the cooperation agreement, both parties will be committed to promoting the research and development of hydrogen fuel cell technology and industrial scale application. BMW group purchases fuel cell units required for manufacturing BMW ix5 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles from Toyota Motor Company.
Traditional internal combustion engines are equipped with technical functions such as air humidifier, air filter, control unit and sensor. On this basis, BMW Group has specially developed hydrogen components for the new hydrogen fuel cell system, such as air compressors and high-pressure cooling pumps.
The manufacturing of a fuel cell system includes two steps. First, the fuel cells are assembled into a fuel cell stack. Fuel cell stack is the place where electrochemical reactions take place and the core part of fuel cell system. Subsequently, the fuel cell stack will be compressed by the machine at a pressure of 5 tons, and the stack shell will be installed for it.
