  On February 15, the official website of the Jilin Provincial Development and Reform Commission showed that the Audi-FAW new energy vehicle project was announced on February 11 by the Jilin Provincial Development and Reform Commission's Industry Division for investment projects. The announcement shows that the total investment of Audi FAW new energy vehicle project is 20.93 billion yuan.   This means that Audi FAW New Energy Vehicle Company, which has been established for one year, will officially enter the stage of investment and construction. The Audi FAW new energy vehicle project is located in Changchun Automobile Economic and Technological Development Zone, Jilin Province. The project covers a total area of ​​2.46 million square meters. The automobile production process workshop, management and control center, and training center cover an area of ​​1.54 million square meters.   Audi FAW New Energy Vehicle Co., Ltd. is a new energy joint venture company established by Audi and FAW. It was established in March 2021 with a registered capital of RMB 5.267 billion and its registered address in Changchun. China FAW Co., Ltd. holds 40% of the shares. , Audi AG holds 55%, and Volkswagen (China) Investment Co., Ltd. holds 5%.


  As early as October 2020, Audi and FAW signed a memorandum of understanding, and the two sides plan to jointly produce high-end electric vehicles in China. After the establishment of Audi FAW New Energy Vehicle Co., Ltd., it became the first joint venture company of Audi in China. Audi currently holds a 10% stake in the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture and 1% in the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture.


  According to the content of the memorandum of understanding between Audi and FAW at that time, Audi FAW New Energy Automobile Company will develop models based on the PPE (Premium Architecture Electrification) platform, and plans to put the first model into production in 2024. It is reported that Audi has developed four electrification platforms: MLB evo, MEB, PPE and J1. Among them, PPE is jointly developed by Audi and Porsche. Porsche's next-generation Macan pure electric car will be built on the PPE platform.


  At the end of November 2021, German media reported that, affected by the delay in approval, Audi FAW New Energy Automobile Company’s plan to cooperate in the production of electric vehicles in China was later than originally planned. Audi China then responded to a reporter from the Economic Observer Network saying that "the parties involved in the project are maintaining close communication".


  At present, Audi has introduced a number of e-tron series electric vehicles in the Chinese market, including three pure electric domestic vehicles, e-tron and e-tron sportback (MLB evo platform) and Q2L e-tron (MEB platform). During the Guangzhou Auto Show, which opened on November 19, FAW-Volkswagen Audi unveiled the Q4 e-tron (MEB platform) electric vehicle, and SAIC Audi unveiled the Q5 e-tron (MEB platform) electric vehicle. Audi's existing new energy vehicle production capacity in China is the FAW-Volkswagen Foshan plant and the SAIC-Volkswagen Anting plant, mainly producing MEB platform electric vehicles.


  Audi is currently at a critical stage in its transition to electrification. According to Audi's previously released transformation strategy, it will invest 35 billion euros by 2025, of which about 17 billion euros will be invested in technology, and about 15 billion euros will be invested in electric mobility and hybrid mobility. In 2025, new energy sales will account for 40%; from 2026, Audi's new models launched globally will all be pure electric models; by 2033, Audi will gradually phase out the last batch of internal combustion engine models to fully accelerate the brand's electrification transformation.


  As the world's largest new energy vehicle market, the Chinese market is the top priority of Audi's electrification transformation. In the Chinese market, Audi plans to increase sales of electrified models to about a third of total sales by 2025. Among them, the products of Audi FAW New Energy Vehicle Company's PPE platform will play a key role.
