Wuxi Shenghe is located in Meicun, Wuxi New District. Meicun was formerly known as Meili. For over 600 years before moving to Helu City, Gouwu or Wu had always had Meili as its capital. Gou Wu moved its capital from Meili to Helu City in the western suburbs of Wuxi about 2500 years ago, and then moved its capital to Suzhou more than 20 years later. After more than forty years of moving the capital of Gou Wu to Suzhou, it was destroyed by King Gou Jian of Yue. Today, Meicun and surrounding areas still have numerous Gouwu cultural sites, folk customs, and legends, making them important places for studying Wu culture.
