According to Reuters, Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal visited the manufacturing plant of American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla in Fremont, California on November 14, 2023. Subsequently, he stated on social media platform X that Tesla plans to increase the number of parts imported from India. This visit comes as the Indian government attempts to attract Tesla and other automakers by lowering import tariffs on electric vehicles.

　　Goyal posted on X and said, "I am very proud to see Indian automotive parts suppliers becoming increasingly important in Tesla's electric vehicle supply chain. Additionally, Tesla plans to increase the number of parts imported from India." In September of this year, Goyal predicted that Tesla's imported parts from India this year would be worth $1.7 billion to $1.9 billion, compared to $1 billion last year

　　However, Goyal was unable to meet with Tesla CEO Elon Musk during his factory visit. According to Reuters last week, the minister's visit to the United States was originally planned to discuss Tesla's plans to build a factory in India, produce a $24000 car there, purchase more parts, and establish charging infrastructure within India.

　　One factor that attracts Tesla to the Indian government is that, unlike the Western market, the penetration rate of electric vehicles in the Indian domestic market is very low, only about 2%. Therefore, for all manufacturers, the space for expanding electric vehicle sales in India is very broad. In addition, due to the lower manufacturing costs in India, the retail prices of Tesla cars manufactured in India may be lower, thereby increasing the sales of electric vehicles in both domestic and export markets.
