At this year's Shanghai Auto Show, NIO launched its new ES6 and opened pre-sales. With the addition of the remaining 7 cars appearing at the booth, NIO's product matrix has been strengthened and integrated into the second generation product design language.
Since the official launch of the new energy vehicle cooperation project between NIO and JAC in 2016, it has been 7 years now, and these 8 vehicles on the market cover over 80% of the market demand of 300000 yuan. With the continuous increase in size, new challenges have emerged: insufficient space in urban exhibition halls, constantly dispersed promotional resources, and how to enhance the value of power stations
With these questions in mind, Li Bin, the founder and CEO of NIO, and Shen Fei, the senior vice president of NIO Energy, discussed how to overcome the "seven year itch" at the auto show.
Even if it's wrong, I still persist
There are more and more products, but Li Bin has his persistence.
At present, all NIO models can only focus on high-end, not luxury. This is Li Bin's values. So there won't be a big screen in the NIO car because it won't let children watch the big screen in the car. He admitted that this may be wrong, but his persistence.
But this does not mean that NIO only lives in its own world.
In fact, the logic of NIO's products is very clear, which is the full lifecycle coverage of product value, that is, on things that need to be updated, maintained, and iterated for a long time, there is no optional installation, and standard configuration is adopted.
For example, in terms of everything related to autonomous driving, NIO does not have an entry-level or fully equipped version. Similar hardware in terms of safety, performance, and comfort will also have sufficient redundant design. The advantage of this is that it can bring more value to the product through software iteration and leverage the advantages of intelligent vehicles.
How to establish a research and development and maintenance system that can manage multiple generations of platforms is something that every intelligent electric vehicle company must think about.
You can see that the first generation of NIO's intelligent system named poplar trees and the second generation named banyan trees because trees can grow for more than ten or several decades.
On the other hand, complexity is an important criterion for NIO to consider when it comes to the parts that are not related to software, namely the visible exterior and interior parts.
For example, in NIO's final assembly workshop, there is an AGV that can be flexibly assembled according to personalized configurations, managed complexity through the development of specialized manufacturing equipment and processes, and increased limited manufacturing costs.
This allows NIO to control the time from ordering to picking up the car in 21 days, even for deep customization, and can be shortened to 15 days in the future.
Becoming a calibrator of power exchange specifications
Wei Lai, who started by exchanging electricity, wants to play a big game in the field of energy replenishment.
The third-generation replacement power station released by NIO already has a service system that integrates charging and replacement, and its service efficiency is 1.6 to 2 times that of ultra fast charging stations with the same power capacity.
Especially in the third generation power station itself, there has been a huge improvement. It has increased the charging power of the battery by 50% and is compatible with the 800V electrical architecture, which almost ensures that all 21 batteries in the station can be effectively recharged. Even when operating at full load, it can provide users with higher quality battery replacement services.
At present, NIO has 1356 replacement power stations, exceeding 2000 by the end of the year. This year, more than 10000 new charging stations will be built, all of which are open to use without brand restrictions. As long as it is a charging model, all users can use it.
Shen Fei stated that currently 80% of the electricity in the NIO Power Station is used by a friend brand, mainly for charging. However, it is also possible to share the power exchange function with friends in the future.
In terms of the current number of replacement power stations, NIO is undoubtedly the leader, with its extensive layout and mature operational experience giving it a say. According to data released by NIO, since June 2018, users' habit of exchanging electricity has been continuously cultivated. The utilization rate of exchanging electricity in power stations has reached 56.8% and is still on the rise, indicating promising prospects for the use of exchanging electricity.
However, relatively speaking, other car companies must produce battery packs and design related chassis functions according to NIO's specifications. This means that NIO will become the calibrator of battery swapping specifications, indicating NIO's ambition. It is reported that NIO has built a new production factory for battery swapping stations.
We don't want people from all over the world to be our users
In fact, since the first ES8 was launched, NIO has struggled with how to choose between product experience features and whether to cater or compromise. But Li Bin firmly believes that not everyone in the world is NIO users, but we must serve all NIO users well.
It is understood that starting from July, NIO will have 8 models fully delivered, and the exhibition hall capacity is somewhat limited. How to take care of every "child" is a challenge.
More test drives, free long-term experiences, and other means for NIO to go global are a way for Amway customers. If you don't buy it, you can also drive it for free. NIO will organize similar activities through various channels to target specific target groups and provide a deep and close up experience.
This year, with the simultaneous development of 8 models, NIO is confident that its monthly sales will reach 20000 yuan, but the market cannot afford to buy it, and it will soon see a true chapter.
