Bosch Powertrain China showcases multiple innovative climate neutral technology solutions at the 2023 Shanghai International Auto Show. After 19 years of development in China, Bosch powertrain has always adhered to the strategy of "rooted in the local market and serving the local market", helping Chinese customers embrace a new era in the automotive industry.
Continuous development of hydrogen fuel cells
Hydrogen energy, as a strategic emerging industry and a key development direction for future industries in China, plays an increasingly important role in achieving China's "dual carbon" goals. Relying on the global resources and forward-looking perspective of the group, Bosch actively invests in and expands the hydrogen energy field, continuously enriching its product portfolio to meet the needs of different application scenarios. During the Shanghai International Auto Show, a 190 kW hydrogen power module was first exhibited, which is a brand new hydrogen power module launched by Bosch after 75 kW and 134 kW. This single system, high-power hydrogen power module is suitable for 49 ton heavy-duty trucks, with a rated output power of up to 190 kW. The product is equipped with a networked control unit that can achieve health monitoring and pre diagnosis functions for the system and components. It can also optimize hydrogen consumption in real-time through cloud computing, digital twins, and artificial intelligence technology. At present, a 250 kilowatt hydrogen power module for the next generation of heavy-duty trucks, as well as an efficient and compact heavy-duty electric drive bridge, are being developed to help further improve the efficiency of future electric vehicles and reduce operating costs.
With the continuous expansion and upgrading of hydrogen power system products, in order to meet the customer needs in the Chinese market faster and more flexibly, Bosch is also continuously accelerating the pace of local innovation in the field of core components. Bosch's electric stack, electronic air compressor, hydrogen injection valve components, multifunctional power controller, and super thermal management system are all developed domestically and gradually launched on the market. Taking the electric stack as an example, Bosch is gradually achieving a comprehensive transformation from the earliest import and assembly of products to the domestic production of key components such as membrane electrodes and bipolar plates. Bosch's world's first high-yield film electrode production line was officially put into use at the beginning of this year. At the same time, the construction of the bipolar board production line is also actively preparing and is expected to be officially put into operation in 2025.
Fully accelerate the industrialization of commercial vehicle electrification products
In February 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and eight other departments issued a notice on organizing the pilot work of comprehensive electrification of public sector vehicles, calling for promoting the improvement of the electrification level of public sector vehicles and accelerating the construction of a green and low-carbon transportation system. In the field of commercial vehicles, Bosch focuses on large-scale electrification of the commercial vehicle market and is committed to providing customers with innovative electric drive solutions for the future, supporting them in building new energy commercial vehicles that lead the market. At this year's auto show, Bosch launched its first coaxial oil cooled motor and multi in one control unit. Coaxial oil cooled motors have the characteristics of high torque, high efficiency, lightweight, and high reliability. The maximum wheel torque can reach 4500 torque meters, which can easily meet the power needs of pickup trucks, light passengers, and light trucks. The highly integrated multi in one control unit created by Bosch is equipped with car grade chips internally, and the peak efficiency of the inverter can reach 99.5%. Last year, the Jiangling E-Luda, equipped with a Bosch flat line oil cooled motor and a multi in one control unit, won the "All around Grand Slam" in the new energy challenge. This Bosch electric drive system is expected to be mass-produced locally in June this year. In addition, Bosch medium and heavy-duty oil cooled flat wire motors and controllers have been successfully applied to the development of electric drive axle systems in pilot projects, and are expected to achieve mass production in the second half of this year to meet the needs of more commercial vehicle models in different scenarios.
On March 25, 2023, Bosch and Wuxi officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement, clarifying that they will further strengthen the layout and development of new energy related products in China, and provide advanced and competitive new energy vehicle technology to local customers.
Add more options for alternative fuel powertrain
In the future transportation system, the coexistence of multiple vehicle power systems and vehicle energy combinations will become the norm, depending on different travel needs and scenarios. As an industry leader, Bosch has always led the transformation and innovation of traditional internal combustion engines, while actively exploring the application of clean alternative fuel powertrain. In the application of clean alternative fuels, Bosch natural gas products such as high flow nozzles, gas rails, and throttle valves have performed well in the market. This year, the newly upgraded ignition coil and EGR hybrid measurement module will also be mass-produced locally. Mature natural gas system solutions have also laid the foundation for the development of other clean alternative fuel solutions, such as methanol systems. Methanol is internationally recognized as a clean fuel, and Bosch's electronic control system for methanol has entered the road test stage and is expected to achieve mass production by the end of this year. In addition, the Bosch hydrogen internal combustion engine project is also being developed locally. Bosch expects that alternative fuel powertrain solutions will become one of the main driving factors for Bosch's business growth in the next decade. A technology neutral solution can give trucks more power options in different application scenarios.
For Bosch, China is a market full of opportunities and vitality. In the future, Bosch will continue to embrace change and empower the development of the new energy industry. Bosch will fully accelerate the industrialization process of fuel cells and commercial vehicle electrification products in China, taking green, low-carbon and sustainable development as the breakthrough point, leading the innovation and transformation of traditional automotive powertrain systems, promoting the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure, and helping the Chinese automotive industry embrace the new era of automobiles Dai Wang Weiliang, President of Bosch Powertrain China, stated.
