Liu Li, Deputy Dean of the Deputy Research Institute of Sany Heavy Truck Electrification Co., Ltd. attended the 2nd China New Energy Heavy Truck Industry Ecological Conference and gave a wonderful speech on the theme of "Opportunities and Challenges of New Energy Heavy Duty Trucks", focusing on new energy heavy trucks The macro policies and market trends, the development opportunities, challenges and suggestions of the new energy battery swap heavy trucks are expounded.

New energy heavy truck macro policy and market forecast


In recent years, 127 countries have proposed or are preparing to propose a top-level plan for "carbon neutrality". my country has taken "3060" carbon peaking - carbon neutrality as a national strategic goal, and has implemented corresponding policies and regulations from the country to the local level.


Liu Li said that, driven by the policy, Sany Heavy Industry has also actively responded to the call of the state, actively deployed construction machinery, special vehicles and tractors, and achieved good results.


The latest statistics show that in the first five months of 2022, the actual sales volume of the heavy-duty truck terminal market was only more than 190,000 units, down 70% from last year; in the first five months, the actual sales volume of new energy heavy-duty truck terminals was 7,677 units, with both sales and year-on-year increases. The penetration rate was 4.02%, 3.7 percentage points higher than the same period last year.


Sany heavy-duty tractor only released a few prototypes in June last year. It received the first order in July, and began to deploy the market in September. The sales of tractors continued to rise in the next three months. Liu Li said that such achievements are enough to prove the correctness of Sany Heavy Industry's decision to transform to electrification, and also increase Sany Heavy Industry's confidence in industry development and promotion.


Development Opportunities for New Energy Swap Heavy Trucks


From the perspective of application scenarios, heavy trucks have obvious advantages in new energy applications in short-distance and high-frequency application scenarios such as short-distance regional, intra-port, on-site transportation, and short-distance dedicated line transportation. Liu Li said that Sany combined different application scenarios to customize and develop different models to meet the needs of different customers.


From the perspective of technological development trends, the technical routes of new energy heavy trucks are mainly divided into hydrogen fuel heavy trucks, pure electric heavy trucks and hybrid heavy trucks. Each technical route has its advantages and disadvantages. However, compared with fuel heavy trucks, new energy heavy trucks have low charging costs and high usage and operation efficiency. Liu Li said that when customers purchase heavy trucks, they pay great attention to operating costs and operating efficiency. To this end, when Sany Heavy Industry develops products, it develops new energy heavy trucks with different technical routes in a multi-dimensional and all-round way according to customer needs.


From the sales data, the new energy heavy trucks are dominated by pure electric heavy trucks, accounting for more than 90%, and will remain in an absolute monopoly position for a certain period of time. In May, 940 heavy-duty trucks were actually sold, accounting for more than half, as high as 50.78%. Liu Li said that from the perspective of terminal data, the power exchange mode has gradually been recognized by the industry. The two sessions encourage the separation of vehicle power and promote power exchange standards, and the power exchange mode is expected to usher in an explosion. Sany Heavy Industry seized this opportunity and launched its own battery-changing heavy-duty truck.


At this stage, limited by environmental resources, charging capacity, high cost, and low transportation rate, the audience for electric heavy trucks is still small. Liu Li believes that in the short and medium term, the battery replacement heavy truck will usher in its own market opportunity due to its convenience, efficiency and low cost.


Challenges and Suggestions for New Energy Electric Swap Heavy Trucks


At the meeting, Liu Li focused on five challenges and suggestions for replacing heavy duty trucks. Mainly include: First, the problem of standardization and generalization of battery swapping mode needs to be solved urgently; secondly, there is a lag in the construction of battery swapping infrastructure; thirdly, how to establish and improve a battery swapping business model; fourthly, how to optimize the issue of the announcement and certification of battery swapping models; Improve the relevant standards for battery-swapped vehicles.


Finally, Liu Li made a summary of the speech. He said that the replacement of heavy duty trucks with new energy sources is the general trend, and the industry has great room for development and will also face inevitable challenges. But in general, my country's power-changing heavy-duty trucks have gradually matured after several years of struggle, and a number of leading companies such as Sany Heavy Industry have also emerged in the power-changing heavy-duty truck industry. Although the field of battery replacement heavy trucks faces challenges, the future is still promising. c
