Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle, part of the Volkswagen Group, has suspended production of the ID. Buzz model in Hanover, Germany, according to foreign media reports.
On June 2 this year, Volkswagen had just started production of the ID. Buzz, and German media reported that Volkswagen had encountered battery-related problems. It is reported that the company noticed a quality problem with ID. Buzz’s batteries, and some cells/modules from new suppliers had problems, causing production to be stopped for a week. According to unofficial information, the performance of these batteries is not up to the target, and there are problems such as voltage drop, which affects the range of the vehicle.

The ID. Buzz is the only VW model to use batteries from an undisclosed new supplier, the report said. Other models based on the MEB platform should have no problem since they carry batteries from other manufacturers. "Cells from the new supplier are currently only used for ID. Buzz. As a result, only production at the Hannover plant has been affected, but not elsewhere," a Volkswagen spokesman said.
Batteries from the new supplier are also expected to be used in other MEB-based models in the future. Foreign media speculate that Volkswagen may delay the plan after battery quality problems. On the other hand, with the modular standard of the MEB platform, Volkswagen can quickly switch battery suppliers and use mature batteries from other suppliers.
VW has only produced about 500 ID. Buzzs so far, and deliveries to consumers have yet to begin, which means the battery quality issue has had little impact. Volkswagen's commercial vehicle division plans to produce as many as 15,000 ID.Buzzs this year. After the ramp-up in capacity ends, the company plans to produce as many as 130,000 units of the model annually.
