According to foreign media reports, according to the latest data from the auto industry data forecasting company AutoForecast Solutions (hereinafter referred to as AFS), as of June 26, due to the shortage of chips, the global auto market has reduced production by about 2.333 million vehicles this year.

From a regional perspective, the cumulative number of cars that have been reduced due to core shortages in Europe and North America is comparable. With so much uncertainty, it's too early to predict who will see the biggest cuts in global auto production this year in Europe and North America. The reductions in other parts of Asia are gradually increasing, reaching almost more than half of those in North America. Auto production cuts in China, South America, the Middle East and Africa have remained unchanged for several weeks.

Last week, Europe cut 25,000 cars due to core shortages, and North America cut a similar number, according to AFS data. Meanwhile, more than 23,000 vehicles were cut in other parts of Asia.

AFS forecasts that global automakers will cut production by more than 3.1 million vehicles in 2022 due to a shortage of chips, with Europe and North America still taking the lead. While the auto industry hopes the chip supply situation will improve, in the past 60 days alone, the AFS has added 800,000 units to its forecast for cumulative production cuts in the auto market this year.

Recently, there are still automakers suspending production due to semiconductor supply shortages. On June 23, the UILM union announced that Stellantis would suspend operations at its key Melfi plant in southern Italy from the evening of June 28 to July 2 due to a "structural" shortage of semiconductor supplies. A Stellantis spokesman confirmed the news and said the company has been making adjustments to its business on a day-to-day basis since the start of the pandemic. "We do not expect the chip supply situation to stabilize until the end of 2022," the spokesman said.
